Walkers Shortbread - Rooted in the past, with its eye on the future
To visit the North East of Scotland, where the tiny picturesque village of Aberlour is home to Walkers Shortbread, is to encounter a landscape largely unchanged for centuries.
The uninitiated could be forgiven for thinking that the 21st century hasn’t reached this region of mountain peaks and rolling farmland, dotted with scenic villages, where the air and the water are as pure and as clear as ever.
However, this is the landscape that forged the Scots’ character – resourceful, inventive and canny – and these are the very qualities responsible for the longevity and success of Walkers Shortbread.
Now operated and run by the third and fourth generations of the Walker family, this is a thoroughly modern business continually striving to stay at the forefront of innovation and development, which nevertheless guards and celebrates its long heritage.

HOUSING/RESIDENTIAL
The concept of ‘home’ has a powerful emotional resonance and understanding human needs is fundamental to the design of effective housing. This extends beyond the four walls to the external environment and the wider community. Sympathetic treatment is essential to synchronise the diverse elements required to create housing which contributes to the well-being of its inhabitants. People who live in environments which nurture them are better equipped to make positive contributions to society.
EDUCATION
In developing buildings for an educational setting, the priority is to create surroundings which facilitate the learning process. Giving young people an academic environment fit for purpose directly impacts on the expectations they place on themselves to succeed. Well designed buildings have a real contribution to make in influencing young people to become responsible, confident individuals. Exposing young minds to good design helps them to appreciate the benefits of academic excellence.
